Distributed Digital Transformation

Case Study

Client Challenge: Our client wanted to upgrade their current technology and move to all digital infrastructure in the cloud. Trying to do this with their internal team was a struggle. They knew they wouldn’t be able to add this project to their internal team’s schedule, so they needed to find an external team to do the work. Their deadlines disappeared trying to hire a team themselves.

IIT Solution: The client needed on-site leadership and expertise, so we delivered a distributed team of an architect and scrum master on-site and filled the development team and QA engineers with Mexican off-site developers. Because specific skills were needed, we also relocated a run-time team and back-filled with recruiting, all while the project was being launched. In fact, it took half the time it would take to fulfill all roles traditionally and kept the project on its deadlines.

Results: Not only did production go up but labor costs went down as we were able to seamlessly scale down development engineers when QA engineers needed to scale up. In the end, a small maintenance team remains, and the rest of the team has been redistributed at no cost to the client.

“ANKLE-BITING” PROJECTS VS. PRIORITY CAPITAL PROJECTS

Case Study

Client Challenge: This company wanted to complete their large capital project but were stuck. Several “ankle-biting” projects that support current infrastructure kept popping up causing their internal teams to lose momentum, miss deadlines, and frustrate leadership.

IIT Solution: The client was initially against outsourcing; however, by working with IIT, they were able to onboard one of our developers for a week trial, taking advantage of our Results Guarantee program to work on one of these small projects.

Results: A week after completing the first project on time and under budget, we spent the next 4 weeks onboarding five additional team members to work on all of the “ankle-biting” projects and managing the intake process.

In fact, 27 projects to-date have been completed for this client over multiple business units.  A number of these projects were in their ticketing system longer than it took to deliver the solution. For example, one ticket had been sitting for three years, and our team finished the project in three months. Not only did we deliver results faster than expected and to the exact needs of the end user, we saved the department several hundreds of thousands of dollars in machine inefficiency and labor costs.
